You must expect great things of yourself before you can do them.

Michael Jordan

At a recreational level, sports are a way of enhancing health, bonding with others, and improving physical and mental skills. At a professional level, sports are war conducted through other means, a sublimation of ancient competitive urges between tribes, communities, countries. Professional athletes are modern day gladiators.

Who benefits from professional sports? The fans get entertainment and can get vicarious wins, as well as bond with other members of the same tribe. Professional athletes get paid, sometimes very well, for their performance and image. And team owners generate revenues directly or indirectly from their teams, which are a tool for business, and in some instances, for politics.

Translating to amateurs and regular people some of the performance tools and insights developed for and by top professionals can be beneficial. For example, perseverance, work ethic, and visualization of success. An important skill is learning how to be in the Zone, which translates well to any life activity, and which essentially is a combination of low anxiety, high mood, and restricted cognition, laser-focused on the task at hand. Regular people as well as top athletes can keep track of their mental parameters and the influence of life events on them with our Life x Mind app. We are working on developing a Zone Score feature for it!
