Mind-Body Medicine2021-10-16

To keep our body in good health is a duty. Otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.

Are there bi-directional effects between the brain and the rest of the body, or do similar mind-like mechanisms occur in other parts of the body, at different levels, especially in response to the environment? The answer is both. While there is clear cross-talk (vagus nerve, hormones, cytokines) between the brain and the rest of the body, there is emerging evidence that genes and biological pathways (groups of interacting molecules) involved in body disorders and brain disorders overlap, and that peripheral blood biomarkers can provide a window into brain functioning, enabling precision medicine. While the biomarkers create opportunities for diagnostics, the overlap creates both opportunities and challenges for therapeutics, due to the potential pleiotropic positive and negative effects of medications. When medications work, they are performance enhancing drugs, from correcting deficits to better than normal functioning. Matching people to the right nutraceuticals and medications is a key function of our MindX Blood Tests.
