Treat, Prevent, Improve2024-09-16

Diagnose before prescribing.

Stephen Covey

Proper solutions require an initial accurate diagnosis. That is true of medicine, and in fact of everything in life. Secondly, the treatment has to match the diagnosis.

Most treatments in medicine, at least initially, get developed and adopted for severe, disabling conditions. That is a sick-care model. It is expensive, and not always fully successful.

A more enlightened approach is to develop and adopt treatments for prevention in people at risk. That is a true health-care model. It is cheaper, and more likely to be successful.

The best approach would be to develop and adopt “treatments” for improving performance in already healthy individuals. That will pre-empt the need for healthcare. It would noticeably improve quality of life for individuals, and improve society as a whole.

At MindX Sciences we are going through these stages. Our testing helps clinicians with diagnosing mental health and pain. Out tests help match people to treatments in an individualized way. Most testing is done currently for severe, “treatment-refractory” cases. We hope to move in the future towards routine primary care and prevention. Eventually, our testing can be used to improve performance of already healthy individuals, by matching them with medications and nutraceuticals that can decrease vulnerability to stress and to pain, or lower anxiety, improve mood, improve cognition, improve longevity. Thus our mantra: Live. Happier. Longer.
