Where you are in your life in general, and with your health in particular, are primarily due to what external things you allowed in, and what things you did (or did not do). Of course, there are random external accidents, or inherited genetic traits, but by and large we have a very high degree of control and agency. This perspective is very positive and liberating, because it means you have a lot of control over your life in general, and your health in particular.
Food is fundamental to life quality, and to health. Not allowing in industrialized addictive fast food, but rather only organic healthy slow food, is a decision that has very high return on investment in the long-term. Exercise is something you can do every day, no matter where you are or your schedule. Walking as much as possible, taking the stairs, doing some squats, some pushups, some jumping jacks, some stretches, are all simple to do and add up. Reduced to first principles, the vast majority of obesity is lifestyle-related. Obesity is industrial addictive food meets sedentary lifestyle. Correct one of the two components to the extreme, or correct both moderately, and there is no obesity. That is why historically obesity was not an issue.
Lastly and most importantly, your mental health, good or poor, is primarily based on what you allowed in, and what you did or did not do. Learning what not to allow in moving forward, by journaling and keeping track of how external events and people affect you, is important and feasible. Learning what to do to improve, whether it is biological treatments, social changes, new psychological prisms to apply, can be done as well. You have to have support, whether people (family and friends, therapists, psychiatrists) or tools (self- assessments, checklists, blood tests), to be able to do that.
