Metamorphosis Takes Gratitude, Action, and Insight2025-04-14

It isn’t where you come from; it’s where you are going that counts.

Ella Fitzgerald

Your physical and mental performance are influenced by what you inherited, what you ingest, and what you do. Make better choices.

How? Genes are not your destiny, and editing them is it’s infancy. It may not even be necessary in the vast majority of cases, as gene expression is what matters. And gene expression is modulated by nutrition, the precise and personalized use of medications (guided by biomarkers), what you do, and what you think.

For example, depression is a (mal)adaptive response to a (perceived) bad life. SSRIs blunt that perception that life is bad. Stimulants give you energy as if life is good. (Both should be minimized or avoided in individuals who are bipolar- low dose mood stabilizers such as lithium are a better choice in such cases). Gratitude and getting moving are simple behavioral ways to treat, and prevent, depression. It is hard to be grateful and depressed at the same time. Get moving, and things start improving.

Track and improve all those things by planning, journaling, using a wearable tracker, and using an app that is helpful in your journey. For example, we have developed Life x Mind, and it is constantly being improved and updated to reflect the latest findings and understandings, from my teams and from the field in general.
