Overdoing Optimization2025-10-20

If you optimize everything, you will always be unhappy.

Donald Knuth

The availability of tests and trackers of all sorts has given rise to an overflow of information and recommendations.

We should remember that the goal is to make life simpler, easier and better for people. Not to overwhelm them and their clinicians with technical data, jargon, and un-actionable information. A test is only useful if it leads to actionable changes. If not, it is just another stressor.

The winners in the healthcare game will keep things simple and provide actionable recommendations. And people need to realize that an over-optimized or medicalized life, where you go to appointments and worry about things all the time, is not a good life. Over-optimization can also make you frail and non-adaptable when your optimized environment or situation change abruptly.

Our goal at MindX Sciences is to demystify, simplify and help solve mental health for patients and their clinicians, so people can move on with their lives. Ultimately prevention, and building resilience for the unexpected in life- and there is always something unexpected that will occur.
